Description

This is the report by the Committee on Science and Astronautics printed by the U.S. Government Printing Office in 1967, for the 90th Congress, 1st session. It is a copy presumably owned by Emilio Q. Daddario, whose name is printed in gold on the front cover. Daddario was a Connecticut Congressman, who served in the House from 1959 to 1971 and was the Chairman, Subcommittee on Science, Research, and Development. The 434-page book reports on such subjects as research into the Antarctic and on high-energy physics. There is a chapter on "Research and Development and National Goals," including natural resources, transportation, water, space science and technology, and health sciences. A section gives a "Review of the Soviet Space Program." Still another chapter reports on "Problems of Applied Technology," including invasions of privacy, environmental pollution and the "population crisis." In addition, there are essays by a number of notable scientists, such as agriculturist Sterling Hendricks and behavioral scientist Ralph Gerard. This is a fascinating document.
The book is bound in black cloth with two red leather labels, which are somewhat worn, but legible. All three edges of the pages are marbled. There are dictionary-style tabs.
