Description
Here is a RARE ORIGINAL "Welcome Aboard" brochure for the U.S.S. CROCKETT (PG-88), a patrol gunboat or "swiftboat" which saw considerable action in Vietnam. The ship was commissioned on 24 June 1967 being built by the Tacoma Boatbuilding Co of Tacoma, Washington. She was named for the city of Crockett, California and was the U.S. Navy's largest all-aluminum ship at the time. She saw extensive action in Vietnam to include coastal surveillance, harassment and interdiction missions and heavy combat which caused considerable damage to her on several occasions. She was stationed at Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam for about two years. She was decommissioned on 31 January 1977 and, sadly, scrapped shortly thereafter. Her actions in Vietnam are legendary! Many of her crew throughout the years are scattered all over the United States. VERY HARD TO FIND! VERY COLLECTIBLE!This brochure is probably from the early 1970s and contains a history of the ship, a biographical sketch of it's then commander (Lt George S. Rhodes), specifications for the ship, photographs, and, on the back cover, the emblem and motto for the ship, the motto being "Sharpshooters".
Thiss original brochure is five pages, measures 5 1/4" x 8", and is in MINT CONDITION. VERY RARE!
