In addition to being a studio and design artist, he is a book and technical illustrator, lithographer and art teacher. He attended North Texas State University and Texas Christian University where his formal art training began with artist and teacher Sally Gillespie. When he was in military service in Japan, he took art instruction at the University of Nagasaki with K. Sakamato. Returning to Texas, he studied in Fort Worth with John Chumley and in Dallas with Chapman Kelley. Then, deciding he wanted more intense training, he went to Philadelphia with his wife and daughters and attended the Pennsylvania Academy for three years and then was a student of John McCoy. Exhibition venues include the Texas Watercolor Society, National Academy of Design where in 1966, he won the Olbrig Prize for Watercolor.
